HI, I'M ALYSSA.
I'm passionate about growing and developing the passions of others. I've been playing piano for over 25 years, and have been teaching since 2012. I am an active member of the Fox Valley Music Teachers Association and the worship team at Christ the Rock Community Church.

I grew up in beautiful Colorado Springs, CO, and attended Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, OK where I earned a Bachelor of Arts in Music Technology. While in Tulsa, I taught piano lessons for Six-Eight School of Music, played on worship teams at Victory Church, and worked as an audio engineer for my university.
Post-college, I moved out to the San Francisco, CA area where I taught outdoor education and team-building skills to 5th and 6th graders. I also met my husband Jimmy there. We began our married life in Colorado, where I worked for Music Greenhouse as a piano teacher and administrative assistant.
We moved to Appleton in April of 2017, and I began independently teaching lessons here a few months later. Since then, we have been thoroughly enjoying Wisconsin and all its places and people.
Apart from teaching piano, I enjoy day trips, coffee, thrifting, and spending time outdoors with my husband and two daughters.

Where are you at in your piano journey?
BEGINNING PIANO
Starting at age 6+
Learning how to play the piano doesn't have to be intimidating! Let's make piano make sense. Younger students take delight in my use of stickers, music games, and fun theory activities. Older beginners will find themselves in a stress-free, relaxed environment that encourages them to ask questions and learn at a healthy pace. We'll choose method books that are appropriate for your age and learning style so you can learn foundational piano skills.
INTERMEDIATE PIANO
Transfer Students / Starting Again
Did your previous piano teacher move away? Have you taken a break for a few years but are now looking to get back into lessons? Needing a refresher before going to college? We can keep going on the classical track, learn more contemporary music, or do a combination of both! Connect with me for a free consultation so we can talk through where you're at in your piano journey and how you're looking to grow.
CONTEMPORARY PIANO
Some prior piano experience needed
Want to play songs you hear on the radio, play worship music at church, or start a band? Let's learn how to read and create lead sheets, utilize the Nashville Number System, play by ear, transpose, and compose. We will dive deep into chord theory and learn how to find patterns and arrange sounds to create harmony. For this lesson track, I prefer that you've had at least a couple years of a foundational piano method first.
